Understanding the Wisconsin New Voter ID Requirements*

 

 

Beginning in 2011, voter ID will be required at all voting polls.   The following forms of ID will be accepted:

 

·        A Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WiDOT) issued drivers license even if driving privileges are revoked or suspended**

 

·        A WiDOT issued identification card**

 

·        An identification card issued by an US uniformed service**

 

·        A US Passport

 

·        A Certificate of naturalization that was issued not earlier than two years before the date of an election at which it is presented

 

·        An unexpired identification card receipt issued by WiDOT

 

·        An Identification Card Issued by a federally recognized Indian tribe in Wisconsin

 

·        An unexpired identification car issued by a Wisconsin-accredited university or college containing the following:

o       Date of Issuance

o       Signature of Student

o       Expiration date not later than two years after date of Issuance

 

 

 

Free Voter ID available:   Wisconsin Act 23 requires the Department of Transportation to provide free ID cards to any US citizen who will be at least 18 years of age on the date of the next election and who requests that the identification card be provided without charge for purposes of voting.

**   Must have an expiration date after November 2, 2010 election
